Dean Hashemi is the campus director for the SAS Honors Program on Livingston Campus. She loves Rutgers—her daughter graduated from the Honors Program! Dean Hashemi finished her BA and MA in Economics, the latter from Columbia University, and she received her Ph.D. in Sociology from Rutgers University, having written a dissertation on Asian female immigrants in the U.S., later turned into a book, Contested Identities: Iranian Women in the United States. She says she "switched to Sociology because she wanted to know more about social issues and what motivates people." She loves to travel, is a self-proclaimed news enthusiast, loves to read history books and novels, and loves swimming, and walking. She has accompanied honors students in Study Abroad expeditions to Yucatan, Mexico, and Sao Paulo, Brazil, during spring and winter breaks! In her free time, she enjoys going to New York City to museums and the ballet, and concerts in the park. She adores her cat Livi, that was rescued as a stray from Livingston Campus!
