Professor Gyan Bhanot, is a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, and the Department of Physics. He is also a member of the BioMaPS Institute and of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. His research interests are in the area of translational medicine and population genetics. Trained as a physicist (PhD from Cornell University in 1979), after working on problems in particle and statistical physics and computer science, his research interests switched to Biology when he read his daughter's AP bio textbook. He is currently working on viral pandemics and trying to find novel targets and risk markers in breast, ovarian and kidney cancer using the analysis of sequencing data. He enjoys talking to young people about science and mathematics.
