How Far Will You Go at Rutgers?

Join us for a special Tea with the Dean on Thursday, October 30th, 4:30 PM at the SAS Honors Program Main Office, 35 College Avenue, CAC. Come learn about programs offtered through the Center for Global Education -- specifically, two programs offered in conjunction with SAS Honors!

IRELAND: Take part in a one-credit international field study abroad experience in Ireland (Friday, March 13 - Saturday, March 21, 2015) focused on the formation of a national identity. This trip is with the SAS Honors Seminar 01:090:297:01 Forging an Irish Identity, which will examine the social and political development of Ireland in the modern era. It will focus in particular on the Great Famine (1845-52), the Easter Rising of 1916, the Irish War of Independence (1919-21), Partition (1920), and the Irish Civil War (1922-23). Students will consider poetry, novels, folk songs, speeches, movies, and plays, using them as starting points from which to explore these key moments in the evolution of Irish history and culture. PAUL BLANEY, Writer in Residence in the SAS Honors Program, will teach the Honors Seminar.

YUCATAN PENINSULA, MEXICO: Spend your Spring Break exploring ancient ruins, swimming in underground lakes, hiking a rainforest, sleeping in small towns, and meeting with local villagers. Join Dean Julio Nazario on the stunning SAS Honors trip to the Yucatan peninsula. Learn applications of history, archaeology, anthropology, and ecological science from local guides. Students will visit Mayan sites such as Chichen Itza and Izamal, key Spanish colonial cities including Merida, and the Kaxil Kiuic Ecological Reserve in the jungle outside Merida. Be prepared to climb pyramids, eat like a local, and snorkel in tropical seas.
