JamesYoungStaging Public Memory: The Raoul Wallenberg Annual Program, funded by Leon and Toby Cooperman

In this slide lecture, Dr. James E Young, UMass Amherst, will trace what he calls an "arc of memorial vernacular," from World War I and the Holocaust to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, the National 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero, and the memorial process in Norway.

James E. Young, one of the foremost authorities on memorials, is the author of The Texture of Memory, among other books; was on the jury for the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition; and has been a consultant on other international memorials.
