Monday Movie Night is a co-curricular movie night sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the SAS Signature course "Extinction." Over the course of the Fall semester, we will screen thirteen movies on Monday Nights starting at 7 pm in ARH 200. Why are we doing this?
1. Because it will be fun and social. Long ago as an undergraduate student, my roommate had a job as "AV guy" and periodically he would sneak us in to the best lecture hall on campus at 1:00 am to watch Jackie Chan movies. This was fun and break from studying. It was also a chance to be connected with some fellow students.
2. Because it is educational. In particular, it is an opportunity to think about some themes and issues that come up in class. Students, and especially those in "Extinction" and "Anthropology Goes to the Movies", will have the chance to make connections with class material.
3. Because movies reflect on people, society, and culture. That makes them anthropological. They are sometimes a mirror of the times and or a vessel for ideas.
4. Because we can show movies that you might not otherwise have an opportunity to see. We will show some that are classics in one way or another.
