Program Description

Each year, our SAS Honors Program faculty, staff, and students work together to choose a book for new SASHP students to read over the summer. We are pleased to announce that this year’s book is “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot.

In July and August, new SAS Honors Program students will begin a conversation about the book with faculty, staff, and students on our SAS Honors Program Summer Reading Blog. On Friday, August 31, 2012, new SAS Honors Program students will discuss the book with Dr. Mia Bay, Professor of History & Director of the Center for Race and Ethnicity and Dr. Terry McGuire, Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Genetics. On Thursday, November 15, 2012, the SAS Honors Program and the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College will host a lecture and book-signing with Rebecca Skloot. “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” will also be the basis for the fall 2012 Honors Colloquium course.
