What attracted you to Rutgers University and the Honors/Scholars Program?
The grand research potential and variety of academic fields that Rutgers excels in.
Why did you choose your major and minor?
I wanted to understand the two extremes of medical knowledge, the basic science at the cellular and molecular level, and the population-based medicine, so I chose Cell Biology & Neuroscience and Health & Society as my major and minor, respectively. As I pursue academic medicine, I hope to enhance my knowledge at both of these extremes, as well as fill in the space in between.
Tell us a little bit about what you're doing now. What was your first job after Rutgers? Where do you live?
I live in Baltimore working for the National Institute on Aging (NIA). I got this job through the Nation Institutes of Health's Postbac program. I am researching for the NIA's Laboratory of Neuroscience. [This Fall, I began] my pursuit of an MD/PhD.
What has been your greatest professional and/or personal accomplishment since you graduated Rutgers?
Being accepted to medical school at Temple University.
Was there a class and/or experience at Rutgers that led you to pursuing your current career?
I met my big brother at Sigma Alpha Mu, Ricardo. He got me thinking about becoming an MD/PhD. I've been pursuing it ever since
What three words describe your experience at Rutgers and the Honors/Scholars Program?
Never slow down
How has your Rutgers and Honors education benefited you in your post-Rutgers life?
Having work and leisure so closely related helps me to maintain a work-life balance now that I'm in the real world.
What advice do you have for our current SAS Honors Program students?
Take pride in what you do, even if you are the only one who understands it.
