Kajol: Danielle was so kind and gave me the opportunity to have small 20 minute meetings with people from various different teams/departments within the company. I was able to get more insight on potential career paths and was able to gain knowledge about the company from so many different perspectives. I loved the overall atmosphere of the company, and I loved having the chance to meet everyone who worked there.

Sam remarked that "it’s very rare to shadow a psychiatrist and actually get to see their cases and be part of the treatment process! This was very unique and helpful for me in figuring out my career goals." Overall, "it was a great experience. Everyone was very friendly and I was included in everything. I got to see a lot and learn a lot, and got to ask a lot of questions. Dr. Shaffer is really nice and easy to talk to. He really made me feel like part of his team and included me in all of his conversations with other doctors."

Arif was was able to sit in on a meeting between the members of the consult liaison team, consisting of Dr. Shaffer, another child psychiatrist, a health psychologist, a neurologist, and a 4th year medical student as they discussed the differential diagnosis on one of the patients. He was also brought along with the team as they went to the patient and got to observe the health psychologist establish a rapport with the patient.

Raymond thought, "it was such a unique experience. Mike arranged for me to speak with four of his coworkers, so by the end of the day I was able to interview five different consultants with varying roles and perspectives."
While Raymond wished he could have seen more of the finished product, he enjoyed understanding the "innovations energy companies are making in order to better price their offerings and reduce waste."

For her Preview day, Shannon said that Andy "set up meetings for me throughout the day with people from a variety of departments, so I was able to get a real feel for what I'd be interested in. He also set up a meeting for the first hour with someone from HR who runs the internship program so I imagine this will be a very useful person to know for the future!"

Mike set up meetings with multiple of his colleagues, who work in all different parts of the company, and with different backgrounds for Jennifer to meet. She felt that it was "great to get various perspectives - it gave me a great gauge of all ICF does. The day was very well planned out, and everyone was so kind and helpful."

Wee Siang's favorite part of the day was "meeting with the Director of Strategic Analytics. His work on data sets and obtaining valuable insights were entirely relatable to my own research on healthcare and nursing homes. It was exciting listening to his experiences."

Ankita's favorite part of her day was "sitting in on rounds with a team of psychiatrists, adolescent physicians and cardiologists. It was so exciting to be able to recognize a lot of the terms they were using from things that I have learned in class, and it made my coursework feel worthwhile!"
She also enjoyed "getting to see how patient interaction played out. It really reminded me of why I'm interested in medicine in the first place, and I know I'll be going back to Dr. Shaffer for advice."

After her Preview day, Grace Z. commented, "I feel like I gained more insight with what I wanted to do with the future which is what I was looking for, and I also got more than what I was looking for!" She advises that other SASHP students who participate in the Preview program should "Prepare ahead of time what you are looking to get out of the experience with specific goals."
