Introduction to the Thesis Course

If you plan to do a thesis in your senior year, here is a valuable course (1-credit, Pass/No Credit), open to SAS juniors, to help you prepare:

Introduction to the Thesis (090:391:01)
Wednesdays, 11:30-12:50, CA-A4, CAC

The senior honors thesis is the definitive research statement of an undergraduate scholar, and a calling card for graduate programs and professional life. Yet many students struggle with the thesis, having never learned the fundamentals of a successful research project.

Modeled on professional research workshops,Introduction to the Thesisis an opportunity to help you begin the process of creating a senior honors thesis in a supportive and educational environment.

We will meet weekly to prepare you as prospective thesis writers with the background, resources, and understanding necessary to produce quality independent work.

The course includes: investigating previous research work in your field, discussions with students currently writing theses and faculty advising theses, finding a thesis advisor, developing your individual thesis topic, increasing your information literacy and research skills, and producing your project’s initial resource base.

We will use Sakai tools to stay in communication and share work in progress.
