Learn more about the Rutgers pre-med and medical school admission journey and gap year experiences from recent SASHP class of '22 grads Kishan Patel and Shruthi Thiyagarajan.
Kishan Patel SAS'22 (CBN major/Psychology minor) will be starting medical school at NJMS as part of the class of 2027. Choosing to take a gap year helped Kishan take a break from school and focus on his hobbies and health, while also giving him extra time to participate in activities to aid his application. Kishan worked as a medical scribe with Clara Maass Hospital and a medical assistant at PM Pediatrics. He also spent time traveling and visiting some activities that were typically put on hold during school like working out.
Shruthi Thiyagarajan SAS'22 (CBN major/Religion and Psychology minors) applied to medical school this cycle during her gap year and is grateful for her acceptances to RWJMS and Rowan SOM! During her gap year, Shruthi worked as a medical scribe at the RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick and as a medical assistant at PM Pediatrics. She also volunteered with several organizations including her local rescue squad as an EMT, Meals on Wheels, ARM, and Kindred Hospice.
This is a casual event. Please dress according to how you would dress for class.
