Professor Gyan Bhanot is a tenured faculty member in the School of Arts and Sciences, with a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He is also a member of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. His research interests are in the area of translational medicine and genetics. Trained as a theoretical physicist he worked on several research areas in physics and computer science before his research interests shifted to Biology in 2001 after reading his daughter's AP bio textbook. He is currently working on the Covid-19 pandemic, immune checkpoint therapy and specialized ribosomes. He enjoys talking to young people about science and mathematics.
