Professor Barry Sopher is a professor in the Department of Economics. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Iowa in 1988. He is an experimental economist and is the Director of the Center for Economic Behavior, Institutions and Design, which is home to the Gregory Wachtler Experimental Economics Laboratory. His research is concerned with all manner of economic behavior, including decision making under uncertainty, intertemporal decision making and strategic decision making. Since coming to Rutgers University in 1987 he has served at times as the Graduate Program Director and the Department Chair for the Department of Economics. He is currently the Undergraduate Program Director for the Department of Economics. When not doing economics, he is often to be found hiking in the Catskills, the Adirondacks and the White Mountains.
